Ortlieb X-Lite 20 mm carrying strap — what happens to bikepacking bags once you get off the bike

Fork-Packs and Dry-Bags are designed to be strapped to a frame, which leaves an obvious gap at the end of the day: you arrive, unclip two bags, and then carry them by hand across a campsite or a station concourse. The X-Lite 20 mm strap closes that gap. Clip it on and the bag becomes a shoulder bag.

It is also the official replacement for the strap supplied with the Accessory-Pack, which is where most people first meet it — usually after losing the original.

Frequently asked questions

Will it fit my bag?
It fits bags with X-Lite attachment points: Fork-Pack, Dry-Bag and Accessory-Pack. For a Sling-Bag Metrosphere or Velo-Sling you need the other strap, reference E266, which we also stock.

Is this the strap that came with my Accessory-Pack?
Yes. The Accessory-Pack ships with this strap, and this is the official replacement if yours has gone missing.

Can I use it to carry a loaded Fork-Pack?
Yes, that is the intended use. Bear in mind a Fork-Pack full of tools is heavier than it looks over a long walk.

Is it adjustable?
Yes, and it stows flat in the bag when you are riding, so there is nothing to flap against the fork.

Why not use any 20 mm strap?
The X-Lite clips are specific. A generic strap with snap hooks will not attach to the same points, and anything that half-attaches to a bag on a fork is not worth the risk.
