Ortlieb QL2 Lock — the two minutes that stop your pannier walking away

Quick-Lock is designed to release in one movement, which is exactly what you want at the office door and exactly what you do not want while the bike is parked outside it. The QL2 Lock closes that gap. It fits onto the mounting rail of the pannier and stops the bag being lifted off the rack.

It is worth being precise about what it does. This secures the bag to the rack. It does not lock the bag shut, and it does not secure the bike. For the contents, Ortlieb's anti-theft devices E124 and E125 pass through the roll-top closure and can also tether a helmet.

Fitting

The lock clips onto the Quick-Lock2 mounting without tools, and works with every Quick-Lock2 system, QL2.1 and QL2.2 alike. It is designed for standard racks with tube diameters up to 16 mm. Once you unlock it, the lock stays open, so it never gets in the way when you are attaching or removing the bag in a hurry.

Frequently asked questions

Does this lock the bag closed?
No. It secures the bag to the rack so it cannot be lifted off. To secure the contents or the roll-top itself, use the E124 or E125 anti-theft device, which we also stock.

Will it fit my pannier?
It fits any Ortlieb bag with a Quick-Lock2 mounting, which covers QL2.1 and QL2.2. It does not work with QL3.1 bags — that system cannot be locked at all.

Will it fit my rack?
Racks with tubes up to 16 mm in diameter, which is the great majority. Above that the lock will not close around the tube.

I have two panniers. Do I need two locks?
Yes, one per bag. If you want a single key for both, ask us for the keyed-alike version, which comes with two identical keys.

Is this enough security?
It is a deterrent against a bag being lifted off in seconds, which is how panniers are usually taken. It is not a substitute for a proper bike lock, and neither we nor Ortlieb would suggest leaving a loaded pannier unattended for long.
