The Rigby is the Core-Line at its most classical. A deep navy blue frame, chrome-finished components and cream-wall tyres on cream rims: a palette borrowed from mid-century club bikes, executed on a modern city frame. It is the model people stop to look at, and the one that photographs beautifully against brick and canal water.

Underneath the finish sits the same honest machine that made State Bicycle Co.'s reputation. A durable steel frame with seat stay rack mounts, fork eyelets and cable stops. A flip-flop hub so you can ride fixed or freewheel. Nothing superfluous, nothing that will not still be working in five years.

A finish chosen with care

Navy blue is a difficult colour to get right on a bicycle — too bright and it reads as sportswear, too dark and it disappears. State Bicycle Co. has landed on a deep, slightly warm blue that changes character with the light. The brown synthetic leather saddle and matching grips, the cream rims and tan-wall tyres, and the silver chrome cockpit and cranks are all colour-matched as a single composition rather than assembled from a parts bin.

Steel that takes the city

The steel frame absorbs the vibration of cobbles and tram lines instead of transmitting it to your hands. Seat stay rack mounts and fork eyelets let you add a rear rack, mudguards or a front basket whenever your commute changes. Horizontal dropouts with integrated chain tensioners keep the rear wheel exactly where you set it and make removing it on the roadside a simple job.

Fixed or freewheel, your choice

The flip-flop hub carries a 16T freewheel on one side and a fixed cog on the other. The bike is delivered ready to coast on the freewheel side. When you want the directness of riding fixed, you reverse the rear wheel — a few minutes with one spanner, no new parts required.

Choose your cockpit

Riser bars with Cult x Vans waffle-pattern grips give an upright, relaxed city position and come as standard. Bullhorn bars put you forward for a faster, more committed ride. Drop bars with bar tape suit longer distances and riders arriving from road cycling. Front and rear caliper brakes are fitted on all three builds.

Frequently asked questions

Which frame size should I choose?

The Rigby is built in three sizes. As a guide: Small (50 cm) suits riders of roughly 163–170 cm, Medium (54 cm) suits 170–180 cm and Large (58 cm) suits 180–188 cm. Inside leg matters as much as overall height, and riders on a size boundary often prefer the smaller frame for sharper handling in traffic. If you are shorter than 163 cm, look at the Wulf or the Lucky Penny, which are also built in a 46 cm frame. If you are between sizes, send your height and inside leg measurement to L'Hirondelle Bike Shop in Meppel and we will confirm the right frame before you order.

Do the cream rims and tan-wall tyres stay clean?

They mark more visibly than black, which is the honest trade-off for how good they look. Tan sidewalls respond well to a damp cloth and mild soap; avoid degreaser and solvent-based cleaners, which dry the rubber and cause the sidewall to discolour permanently. Replacement 700 x 28c tan-wall tyres are widely available if you eventually want fresh ones.

How is the bike delivered, and does it arrive assembled?

It ships directly from State Bicycle Co.'s European warehouse to your address, around 90 percent assembled. The final setup — handlebars, front wheel, pedals, saddle height, brake and drivetrain adjustment — must be completed by a qualified mechanic before the first ride. What does the 5-year warranty cover, and what do I need to keep?

Five years on the frame against manufacturing defects and one year on non-consumable parts; wear items such as tyres, pads, cables, chain and grips are excluded. Important: State Bicycle Co. requires proof of professional assembly for the warranty to be valid, so keep the invoice from whoever builds the bike. That document is what supports any future claim, and a claim can be refused without it.

Can I fit a rack and mudguards?

Yes. Seat stay rack mounts on the frame and eyelet mounts on the fork accept a standard rear rack and full-length mudguards without adapters. With 28c tyres and mudguards together the clearance is tight but workable, so it is worth having them fitted at the same time as the initial build.

Is the frame the same as the Wulf?

Yes. Every Core-Line model shares the same steel frame, geometry, wheelset and drivetrain. What separates them is the finish and the component colour package. Choosing between a Rigby and a Wulf is entirely a question of how you want the bike to look — and, for smaller riders, of which sizes are built in each colourway.

Where are these bikes made?

State Bicycle Co. designs its bikes in Tempe, Arizona; frames are manufactured in Asia to the brand's specification. European stock is distributed from State Bicycle Co.'s EU warehouse.
