Chrome Initiate 26L Pack — the roll-top, edited for the working week

Chrome built its name on messenger bags made to survive a courier's year in a single season. The Initiate 26L takes that construction and strips the visual noise out of it. What remains is a clean roll-top silhouette that reads as easily in an office as it does locked to a bike rack in the rain — 26 litres of usable volume, a padded sleeve for a 16-inch laptop, and a stretch cord on the side pocket that holds a U-lock exactly where you need it.

It is the bag for the commute that does not end when you arrive. Roll the top down for a light day, open it out for groceries or a weekend's worth of clothes, and let the rear pass-through slide over a suitcase handle when the trip goes further than the office.

Weather resistance

The shell is 1050D recycled nylon, reinforced with 1680D recycled ballistic nylon at the points that take abuse — the base, the strap anchors, the panel that rests against your back. Both are PFAS-free. The roll-top closure folds over itself and secures with Chrome's swappable SM buckle, which means the opening sheds rain rather than channelling it inward. This is weather-resistant construction, not a submersible dry bag: it will carry a laptop through a Dutch autumn downpour without complaint, but it is not designed to be dunked.

Frequently asked questions

Will my 16-inch laptop actually fit?
Yes. The padded sleeve measures 42 × 32 cm, which covers a 16-inch MacBook Pro and most 15.6-inch Windows laptops with room for a slim case. A 17-inch machine will not fit.

What does "weather resistant" mean in practice?
The fabric and the roll-top closure keep rain out during a normal commute — think a half-hour ride through steady rain. There is no welded seam construction and no waterproofing rating, so for sustained downpours or a fully waterproof guarantee, look at the Chrome Urban Ex or Barrage lines instead.

Does the U-lock holder fit a full-size lock?
The stretch cord on the side pocket is built for standard U-locks. Mini locks sit securely too. If you ride with an oversized shackle lock, bring it in to L'Hirondelle Bike Shop in Meppel and we will check the fit with you before you buy.

Can it be repaired?
Chrome covers the bag for life against material and workmanship defects. Wear-and-tear damage — a torn pocket, a failed zip — is generally repairable by a gear repair specialist, and our workshop can advise on the route.

Which colour should I choose?
Black is the quiet default. Coyote softens the bag considerably and wears its age well. Steel Blue is the one people notice. All three use the same shell construction.
