Bosch Purion e-bike controller
Bosch Purion: the compact e-bike controller on Schindelhauer electric bikes
The Bosch Purion is a small display and control unit that sits on the handlebar, right next to your left grip. It replaces a large central screen with a discreet, thumb operated unit, which suits the clean lines of a design e-bike. At L'Hirondelle Bike Shop, you will find it on the Schindelhauer Heinrich 1.0 and Heinrich VIII, both built around a Bosch Active Line Plus or Performance Line drive.
This guide explains what the Purion shows, how you use it on a daily ride and how to look after it.
What the Purion does
- Switches the system on and off with a single button.
- Selects the assistance level with the plus and minus buttons.
- Displays your riding data: speed, battery charge, estimated range, trip distance and total distance.
- Controls the lights when the bike's lighting is connected to the Bosch system.
- Activates the walk assist, which helps you push the bike, for example up a ramp or out of a bike shed.
The assistance levels
On a Bosch Active Line Plus or Performance Line drive, the Purion lets you choose between the following levels:
- Off: the motor does not assist, the display stays on.
- Eco: gentle support and the longest range, ideal for flat city routes.
- Tour: balanced assistance for everyday commuting.
- Sport: stronger support for headwinds and bridges.
- Turbo: maximum assistance for starts, climbs and heavy loads, with a shorter range.
In every mode, assistance stops at 25 km/h, as required for pedelecs in Europe.
Daily use and care
- Read the range estimate with care: it adapts to your recent riding, so it changes when you switch modes or ride into the wind.
- Switch the system off before removing the battery or before transporting the bike.
- Clean with a soft, damp cloth and avoid high pressure cleaning around the display and connectors.
- Keep the software up to date: updates are done by a Bosch dealer during a service.

Frequently asked questions
Can I fit a Purion to any electric bike?
No. The Purion only works with Bosch drive systems from the same generation. If you want to change or replace the display on your Bosch e-bike, ask a Bosch dealer to check compatibility first.
Why does the range on the display change while I ride?
The estimate is recalculated continuously from your assistance level, speed, terrain and recent consumption. Riding in Turbo or against the wind lowers it, while Eco on flat roads raises it.
Does the Purion need its own charger?
No. It is powered by the e-bike's main battery, so charging the battery is all you need to do.
What should I do if the Purion shows an error code?
Switch the system off and on again. If the code returns, note it down and contact a Bosch dealer. You are also welcome to ask our team at L'Hirondelle Bike Shop in Meppel for advice.
