Install a bicycle basket
A good basket turns a bike into an everyday companion. The right one depends less on its look than on where it sits and how it is mounted: on the handlebar, on the fork or on a rack, fixed for good or ready to lift off when you arrive.
Front or rear?
Your things stay in sight and within reach. Ideal for a bag, a jacket or a few groceries. Check the space on your handlebar, as lights, a display or cables can get in the way.
Sits on a luggage rack, lower and further from the steering, which suits heavier shopping. Your bike needs a rack, and the basket must fit its platform.
The main mounting systems
A holder clamps to the handlebar or stem. It can be permanent, or removable with a click system such as KlickFix, where an adapter stays on the bike and the basket lifts off.
Classic wire baskets, such as those from Wald, hang from the handlebar and are supported by struts down to the front wheel axle.
The basket is bolted to the fork or forms part of a front rack, so the weight is carried by the fork rather than by the handlebar. Some brands, such as Schindelhauer, design baskets for their own front rack.
Fixed with the supplied hardware, or removable with a system such as MIK, which requires a compatible rack or an adapter on the rack.
Fixed or removable
A fixed basket is simple, stable and stays on the bike. A removable basket comes with you into the shop, the office or the house, and leaves the bike clean when you do not need it. Removable systems are not interchangeable between brands, so always check which adapter your bike or rack needs, and whether it is included.
Before you choose
- Position: front for quick access and light items, rear for heavier loads.
- Mounting points: handlebar space, fork eyelets, a front or rear rack.
- Load: every basket and mount has its own limit. Check the maximum load stated by the manufacturer on the product page.
- Compatibility: handlebar or stem diameter, rack system, wheel size, and on an e-bike the position of the display and cables.
- Use: daily commuting, weekly shopping or occasional errands each suit a different basket.

Frequently asked questions
Can I fit a basket to any bike?
Most bikes can take a basket, but not every mount fits every bike. It depends on the space on your handlebar, the eyelets on your fork and whether you have a rack. Each product page lists the compatibility stated by the manufacturer.
Does a front basket affect steering?
A loaded basket on the handlebar makes the steering feel heavier. For heavier items, a fork-mounted basket or a rear basket is usually the more comfortable choice.
Can I fit a basket to an e-bike?
Yes, as long as the mount leaves room for the display, controls and cables, and the rack matches the basket's mounting system. Check both before ordering.
What does KlickFix or MIK mean?
Both are removable mounting systems: KlickFix is widely used on the handlebar, MIK on rear racks. A basket only clicks on if the matching adapter is fitted to your bike or rack.
